GTA VI has two main editions, one separately purchasable upgrade, and different rules for digital and physical buyers. The simplest choice is also the most useful: buy Standard if you want the complete game; buy Ultimate only if the named story bonuses are worth the additional cost to you. Rockstar says Standard owners can purchase the Ultimate Edition Upgrade later, so there is no need to pay for uncertainty.

What the Standard Edition Includes
The Standard Edition includes Grand Theft Auto VI. Rockstar does not describe it as a reduced campaign or limited-access version. Eligible digital purchases made before November 20, 2026 also receive the Vintage Vice City Pack and one month of GTA+.

Physical Standard pre-orders also include a code for the game and Vintage Vice City Pack. Rockstar's support page does not include the GTA+ month in its physical-preorder list, so physical buyers should not assume that subscription benefit is included unless their retailer's official terms explicitly say so.
Every Official Ultimate Edition Benefit
Rockstar describes the Ultimate bonuses as items threaded across Jason and Lucia's story, with new items uncovered behind each chapter. The official list names 16 benefits but does not publish their monetary value, unlock chapter, performance advantage, or whether equivalent non-Ultimate items can be earned.
Do not overread the names
A named compound, garage, shop, salon, or tattoo parlor confirms an Ultimate benefit. It does not by itself establish passive income, exclusive missions, permanent ownership rules, or a specific upgrade system.
Can You Upgrade from Standard Later?
Yes. Rockstar Support says Standard owners can purchase the Ultimate Edition Upgrade separately at any time after the game code has been redeemed. The current US Xbox listing prices that upgrade at $20, matching the difference between the $79.99 Standard and $99.99 Ultimate editions. Platform pricing can change or vary by region.
This makes Standard the lower-risk choice for undecided buyers: you can play first, see how the benefits are delivered, and then decide whether the upgrade is useful. Confirm the live store price before purchasing because a platform storefront, not this guide, controls the transaction.
Physical Edition: Code in the Box, No Disc
Rockstar's support page says the physical GTA VI version contains a digital download code and no disc. Physical copies are expected to ship or become available for pickup beginning November 12 so buyers can redeem the code and preload before the November 19 launch.
There is no physical Ultimate Edition listed. A physical Standard buyer can redeem the included game code and then purchase the digital Ultimate Edition Upgrade through PlayStation or Microsoft. Because the box is not a playable disc, collectors and second-hand buyers should pay close attention to whether a code has already been redeemed.
GTA+ Bonus and Auto-Renewal
Eligible digital purchases include one month of GTA+. On PlayStation, the offer must be claimed by March 31, 2027 and the membership continues at the regular monthly price unless canceled. Existing subscribers can have the month added after claiming it. Xbox uses a platform-specific offer-and-credits redemption flow and says the offer is limited to one redemption per platform account.

Choose Standard
You mainly want Jason and Lucia's complete story, prefer the lowest price, or want to judge the extras after launch.
Choose Ultimate
You already value the complete named bonus collection and are comfortable paying the current premium before detailed utility is known.

You want technical reviews, exact bonus utility, regional retail options, or final performance details before spending.
