GTA VI's physical version has no disc: it is a retail box containing a download code for the digital game. Rockstar's own pre-order announcement describes it as a version "containing a download code inside the box", available from 12 November. What this means for buyers
A code cannot be resold or traded in once redeemed, and the game is tied to your account, the same as a digital purchase. Those follow from how a redeemable code works; Rockstar has not published terms beyond the pre-order announcement. The PlayStation page also states the game is not playable on PlayStation 4 and lists offline play as enabled, so an internet connection is needed to download, not necessarily to play.
Claims we could not verify
- That Rockstar issued a later statement ruling out a disc "at any point". We found no such source.
- That the decision was made to prevent leaks or stop resale. This is commentary, not a Rockstar statement.
- That other named retailers have joined the boycott.
